The client

HKC Alarm Systems are a leading provider of security alarms in Ireland and the UK. They offer some of the most innovative solutions on the market. They had recently become part of the ASSA ABLOY Group (the world’s largest lock and access company).

The brief

After having already designed and built the HKC website I was asked to design the user interface for the their new flagship mobile app.

The ‘HKC SecureComm 2’ app was to enable users to easily manage their alarm systems from any location; receive alert notifications, track alarm events and view a detailed log history.

The version 2 of the app was to include some great new features and provide an enhanced user experience.

The solution

The user interface needed to reflect the combined branding of both HKC and ASSA ABLOY.

The initial UI layouts were base on version 1 of the software. As the project progressed further UI layouts showcasing the new functionality that was to be added to version 2 of the app.

A number of solutions were visualised for the ‘Block’ screen which proved tricky as there was no working prototype detailing the full functionality of this feature.

A modern clean feel was adopted for the UI and an icon set was created to reflect the different controls of the software.

HKC were extremely pleased with how the app was received by their customers.

It's currently rated 5.0 out of 5 on the Apple App Store.
